Optical microscopy, often referred to as light microscopy, employs visible light and magnifying lenses to examine small objects, and is probably the most well-known and well-used research observation tool in biology and material science. The light microscope operates via some very basic principles but has nearly limitless applications for visualizing specimens in the lab.
